Richard grew up in the Adirondacks Mountains of New York. He completed an undergraduate degree in Emergency Medical Services while on Active Duty and Psychology from Syracuse University. He served with the US Army as a Combat Medic in the 1st Infantry Division and the 1st Armored Division. He completed his Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2007 and returned to his alma mater to complete the Doctor of Physician Assistant Studies in 2019. He holds the Certificate of Additional Qualification in Hospital Medicine and is a Distinguished Fellow in the American Academy of Physician Assistants. He continues to serve in the Army National Guard and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After working many years on the donor side of transplantation and as a Hospitalist PA in New England, he most recently worked for Home Based Primary Care for the Veterans Administration. He and his family moved to Kodiak in 2024 where his lovely and talented wife is assigned from the USPHS to the Kodiak Air Station of the USCG. She also is a Physician Assistant. Richard and his family enjoy travelling and the Great Outdoors.
